This video is a product of years of formal training in the arts, years of experience plying the trade, and considerable time working with individual students and members of various art clubs.  It is designed in such a way that if you are new to oil painting, it can help you understand in step by step segments just how easy it is to create wonderful paintings in oil. And, if you are already familiar with the basics, this two hour instructional video will impart important  techniques as we paint a stunning Hawaiian sunset from start to finish on 24" x 30" canvas.

The initial segments will explain the various types of oil painting products available, and how to recognize the differences between them.  These initial segments also include how to acquire a subject, how to analyze the specific elements of the chosen subject, what types of canvas is the most suitable, and the specific techniques necessary to get the selected image transferred onto the canvas.   For the more advanced artist, the follow-on segments demonstrate how to use the image as a reference, how to select the appropriate colors, and finally what support supplies are necessary to actually begin painting.  The remaining segments take you step by step on how to paint in multi-layers to capture the realism of a Hawaiian sunset, how to bring forward the various gradients of a vibrant ocean and, finally, how to paint the outline of an island as it is silhouetted between the ocean and the sky.

People have often expressed to me that they are not very artistic, e.g., they cannot draw well enough to capture the true essence of the image they wish to paint  My answer is simple, there are techniques that will allow one to capture an image on canvas and paint that image with skill.  One such technique is explained in detail in our instructional video Oil Painting Made Easy.  Sure, it takes a little time to learn, and sure, it takes a little effort to achieve the best results, but the time and effort are well worth it.  You can amaze yourself, your friends, and your family with what you can create if you are willing to take the time and expend the energy. 

Oil painting can capture important memories for the future.  As an example, we have all had the pleasure of giving or receiving beautiful flower arrangements.  They fill us with pleasant feelings just looking at them.  Unfortunately, they are ephemeral, e.g., they do not last.  So, what if you used your camera to take a picture of the flower arrangement, took that picture to the local drug store, had it enlarged, used that picture to trace its image on to a canvas, and then using the picture as a reference, created an oil painting that would not only amaze everyone but would last you a lifetime.

Or perhaps, you would like to create a work of art that captures for all time a friend or loved one.  People of course change with time, it would be great to be able to capture a particular moment in time, such as a wedding, a graduation, or some other special event.  If you have a camera, this is exactly what you can accomplish.  Once you have the photograph, you can can use it as an unchanging reference which will allow you to take your time in painting the portrait of that special person at that special time.  These painting could also be a grandchild, a husband, or child, there is no end to the possibilities.

Let's not forget about the places you have visited on vacation.  Maybe it was a night shot of Big Ben in London, or that trip cursing down the Rhine in Germany.  These kinds of memories can generate years of enjoyment just remembering the adventure and talking about it with friends and family.  Being able to create these memories of the joys of life is what makes life worth living.  When these memories are hung on the wall, you will not only have the joy of the memory, but the remembrances as well.  Does this kind of creativity take some time, sure it does, and it requires practice as well.  But if you have some time, and some interest, the rewards are great.  As is the satisfaction of creating something wonderful that will last a lifetime!
